A sit-down break at Disney’s Hollywood Studios no longer has to mean choosing between the Brown Derby’s outdoor atmosphere and a little shade. The restaurant’s lounge patio is welcoming guests again after its summer construction project, now with a substantial overhead cover and ceiling fans.
The reopening was documented in BlogMickey’s September 6 report, which shows diners seated beneath the finished structure. That is an observed return to service, not a newly announced opening date from Disney. The indoor Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant stayed open during the work.

A Better Outdoor Break, Not an Indoor Escape
The most useful change is overhead: a red awning and new overhang shelter the main patio seating area, with fans underneath to move the air. Lanterns complete the structure. Work began in late June, so this brings an outdoor dining space back after much of the summer without it.
That should make the lounge more appealing when you want to stop walking but still enjoy the park around you. It is a different kind of break from disappearing into an enclosed dining room.
Keep that distinction in mind on a hot or stormy day. A roof and fans do not create air conditioning, and overhead cover is not a promise that every table stays dry in wind-driven rain. Disney describes The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge as a patio setting for appetizers, wine, cocktails, and people-watching. That makes it worth considering for a pause between park plans, particularly if the outdoor setting is part of the appeal.
The main restaurant and the lounge are not interchangeable labels for the same seating plan. If you already have a dining reservation, check which experience you booked rather than assuming it guarantees a table on the reopened patio. This construction project was about the outdoor area; it was not a reopening of the entire restaurant.
Before committing time to a stop, look at the current menu and operating details on Disney’s lounge page. The new structure does not, by itself, establish a new menu, new prices, or a change to how seating is assigned.
Fit the Stop Into Your Park Day
This is still an in-park lounge: Disney requires valid Hollywood Studios admission, with a park reservation potentially required depending on your ticket type. It is not an alternative to a resort restaurant for someone who does not intend to enter the park.
For a flexible visit, decide whether you want a quick food-and-drink break or a longer seated meal before arriving at the host stand. Check availability there, and leave room around any timed plans instead of counting on immediate seating.
