Disney has finally put a year on the first wave of Monstropolis openings at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: guests will be able to enter parts of the new Monsters, Inc. area in 2027. That is the useful planning update. The headlining door coaster is still under construction, so 2027 is not yet a full-land opening date.

Disney confirmed the phased approach during D23 2026, along with a new theater show, quick-service pizza, a table-service restaurant, and a merchandise location. Disney has not announced the door coaster’s opening date, height requirement, Lightning Lane access, or whether it will open with the first 2027 offerings.

The first Monstropolis experiences arriving in 2027

The first confirmed attraction is Welcome to Monstropolis at the Glob Theater. Disney says Mike and Sulley will host the show, with Sulley trying to stage something small while Mike adds his own surprises. Randy Newman wrote a new song with the same name for the land.

That gives the former Muppets Courtyard area more than a single ride to pull visitors in. A theater can also be a practical option for families with different thrill levels or for anyone looking for an indoor break on a hot, rainy, or packed Hollywood Studios day.

Dining will be part of the opening story

Disney has named two food locations. Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will offer a place to grab pizza, with the adjacent Monsters University Alumni Club tied into that setting. Harryhausen’s will be a table-service restaurant inspired by the movie location, featuring a new Audio-Animatronics sushi chef and a menu Disney says will include more than sushi.

For visitors, those are two different needs: a quicker meal that can fit between attractions and a reservation-worthy experience that could become a destination on its own. Disney has not shared menus, reservation timing, pricing, or a specific opening date for either restaurant, so it is too early to make dining plans around them.

A shop, a new land song, and the bigger park picture

Disney also confirmed the Scareporium souvenir shop. Together with the show and restaurants, that suggests the first phase is meant to feel like a place to spend time rather than a construction corridor beside a future coaster.

Hollywood Studios is a park where guests often bounce between a small number of major rides. A show, quick-service restaurant, table-service restaurant, and shop could create a useful new stop between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, and Sunset Boulevard. What is still unknown about the door coaster

The Monsters, Inc. door coaster remains the biggest unanswered piece. Disney has previously confirmed its vertical lift and the door-vault theme, but has not announced its opening window, ride restrictions, queue access, or preview plans. It is possible the coaster opens later than the first 2027 experiences; Disney has not said.

That is why families planning a 2027 trip should treat Monstropolis as a welcome bonus for now, not as a guaranteed coaster day. If ride closures and construction affect your visit, keep an eye on our Disney World refurbishment calendar as Disney releases firmer dates.
