Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is still closed after its original late-June reopening window passed. Disney’s official dining page lists no operating hours and does not provide a new reopening date.
The indoor Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto remains open, but it is not a simple one-for-one replacement. It has limited capacity, can develop a wait, and becomes adults-only after 8 p.m.

What Disney Currently Confirms
Disney originally said the outdoor terrace would be unavailable from mid-April through late June because of refurbishment work at the Great Ceremonial House. That window has ended, but the venue remains listed as closed for refurbishment.
No updated date appears on the official Tiki Terrace page. BlogMickey reported that work around the area appears to be expanding and said it requested more information from Disney, but no reply was available at publication.
Can Guests Still Visit Trader Sam’s?
Yes, the indoor Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto remains open. Disney currently lists hours from 11 a.m. to midnight and advises guests to arrive early because the lounge can fill and may require a wait.
Families need to watch the clock. Children are welcome inside until 8 p.m.; after that, only guests age 21 and older may enter. If Trader Sam’s is a must-do with children, do not leave the attempt until the end of a Magic Kingdom resort evening.
How the Extended Closure Changes a Polynesian Evening
The terrace normally adds outdoor seating, live music, and a more casual way to enjoy the Trader Sam’s menu. With that option unavailable, guests should expect more pressure on the indoor lounge and should not assume they can simply move outside when the grotto is full.
Tambu Lounge, Oasis Bar & Grill, and other Polynesian dining locations can provide alternatives, but they do not recreate the same tiki experience. Check current hours and age rules before crossing the resort for a backup.
Guests also have a new bus location at the resort. Our Polynesian bus-stop update explains the July 13 transportation and road changes that may affect the same visit.
What Remains Unknown
Disney has not published a revised reopening date, explained whether the terrace work has expanded, or said whether the venue will return in phases. The safest planning move is to check the official dining page on the day of your visit and treat any reopening as a welcome bonus until a date appears.
