Updated July 17, 2026: Disney guest communications now say the Sassagoula River Cruise route between Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney Springs will be unavailable beginning July 20 through early August while refurbishment work continues along the route.

Complimentary bus service remains available. Disney has not posted an exact boat-service return date on a public transportation page, so guests arriving in early August should confirm the route’s status rather than assuming the work has ended.

What Changed From the Earlier Notice

The first message sent to some Old Key West guests warned that boat service might be interrupted during August but did not provide a start date. The updated communication is more specific: the route is expected to be unavailable beginning July 20 and remain offline into early August.

The notice still does not give a calendar date for reopening. “Early August” is a planning window, not a guaranteed first day back, and weather or construction progress could affect the actual return.

Which Sassagoula Route Is Affected?

The guest communication concerns boat service at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. It does not confirm that every Sassagoula River Cruise route serving Port Orleans or Saratoga Springs will close for the same period.

Guests staying at another resort should check their own resort notices, the My Disney Experience app, or the front desk before changing plans based on the Old Key West schedule.

Bus Transportation Is the Main Backup

Disney says complimentary buses will continue between Old Key West and Disney Springs. The bus keeps the destination accessible, but it changes the travel routine. Guests need to walk to a resort bus stop rather than the boat dock and should account for waiting, loading, and traffic.

If you have a dining reservation or ticketed experience at Disney Springs, leave a larger buffer than you would for a casual evening. Families with strollers and guests using mobility devices should ask a Cast Member about the current bus loading process rather than waiting at the closed dock.

This Is Separate From Disney Springs Boarding Verification

The boat-route refurbishment is a temporary service interruption. It is separate from the newer verification rules for resort-bound transportation leaving Disney Springs. Our Disney Springs transportation-verification report explains who may be asked to show a hotel stay, dining reservation, or experience reservation.

Old Key West hotel guests remain eligible to use the resort bus. Keep a MagicBand, room key, or reservation details available in case Cast Members need to verify the stay on the return trip.

What Early-August Guests Should Do

  1. Check the app or ask the front desk before walking to the dock.
  2. Use the resort bus stop when boats are unavailable.
  3. Allow extra time for Disney Springs reservations.
  4. Confirm the latest return date instead of relying on “early August.”
  5. Watch resort notifications for construction changes.

Would the temporary loss of the Old Key West boat change your Disney Springs plans, or is the bus a workable substitute? Let us know in the comments below; we would love to hear your plans.
