Disney hasn’t said exactly why this show is taking longer to open, but they did mention that there will be big changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
New Show: “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure”
Since “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” closed, Disney is making a new show called “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” This new show will honor the old animated movie and will have cool new stuff that everyone will love.
The new Disney Princess show will change the Animation Courtyard theater to look like Ariel’s amazing underwater world. With new technology coming, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” is made to make you feel all the emotions from Ariel’s story.
The show will have bright sets that bring the underwater world to life and cool effects for a fun experience. It will include musical songs that fans will know, like “Part of Your World” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”
The show was first planned to start in fall 2024, but now it will start in summer 2025. Disney Parks Blog shared this news:
“As we get ready for ‘The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure’ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are filing permits for a new sign. Work on the outside of the building will start soon, getting ready for this new show in summer 2025. We can’t wait to share more details soon!”
Reporter Scott Gustin shared pictures and sketches on X (it was called Twitter before). He said that Disney’s team will soon start taking down the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” sign.

Changes in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Rides
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a lot of fun shows, and “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” was loved by many. Since it closed, people have been wondering about other rides. “The Little Mermaid—A Musical Adventure” will take the place of the old show and bring new ideas to the story.
The changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are linked to new rides coming soon, like a Monsters, Inc. themed area with a roller coaster. Some old attractions might close to make room for these new experiences.
When Josh D’Amaro from Disney talked about the new “door coaster” at D23 Expo 2024, he showed pictures of two possible places for the new Pixar-themed area. One picture showed it might replace the Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D, near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The other picture showed it could go where the Animation Courtyard is now, close to Toy Story Land and Sunset Blvd.
The work on “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” shows that Walt Disney Imagineering is not planning to take away the whole Animation Courtyard for the Monsters, Inc. area. But Disney hasn’t said exactly where the new land and ride will be.
